Photodynamic therapy (PDT)
Photodynamic therapy is our preferred therapy for the treatment of actinic keratoses or light-induced changes in the skin. The principle of this treatment is an inflammatory reaction of the skin that causes the cells that have been created by the influence of sunlight to detach.
We clean the skin and numb the areas to be treated with a cream. After one hour, a gel is applied, the active ingredient of which is necessary for the formation of the inflammatory reaction in the further course. This gel is worked into the skin with tiny needles (microneedling).
After this preparation, the areas to be treated are illuminated with daylight for 2 hours. This exposure leads to the desired inflammatory reaction, which continues after the treatment. The skin is initially reddened and overheated and the sensation is reminiscent of sunburn.
In the surgery, we cool your skin, apply a soothing cream and do not discharge you without first applying sunscreen to the treated areas. In the following days you may experience slight pain, redness, crusting, swelling, itching and/or burning of the skin.
Please protect the treated areas from direct UV light for 4 weeks and consistently use SPF 50 light protection.
Appointment duration: approx. 4 hours, 1st check after 3-4 days.
